Mapping the Security Playbook Narratives in the Nigerian Media- Media Monitoring; Review of NITDA’s Regulatory Framework and Design of educational and policy resources.

This project was implemented by Dataphyte Foundation under the Action Group on Free Civic Space (AGFCS), focused on two major activities. First, it carried out media monitoring to map dominant narratives and voices linking insecurity with shrinking civic space in Nigeria, by scraping and analysing reports from five national newspapers (Tribune, Guardian, Leadership, Daily Trust, and This Day) covering the period October 2016 to October 2024. This involved developing a methodology, codebook, data collection and analysis, which resulted in a comprehensive report.

Second, the project reviewed 30 regulatory instruments of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), simplifying them into infographics, motion graphics, and short videos for broader civic and stakeholder engagement.

Despite challenges such as insecurity, office relocation, and initial setbacks in data collection, the project successfully delivered evidence-based insights into media narratives on security and civic space, while also producing accessible educational resources to strengthen digital rights advocacy and policy literacy in Nigeria
