Dataphyte is pleased to announce its plans to provide real-time updates and election coverage for the Ekiti State Governorship Election scheduled for Saturday, 20 June 2026. The live updates will cover reports from polling units across the state, including voting processes, voter turnout, election results, and other happenings at the polls.
This exercise forms part of Dataphyte's Electoral Integrity and Accountability project, which aims to strengthen citizens' trust in democratic institutions and electoral processes through data-driven reporting, real-time election updates, analysis, visualisations, and evidence-based civic engagement. The exercise is part of Dataphyte's contribution to the Media Coalition for Electoral Reporting, established under the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID)'s Media in National Elections (MiNE) Project. The coalition aims to promote factual, inclusive, and responsible election reporting while improving citizens' access to credible electoral information.
According to the Country Director of Dataphyte, Oluseyi Olufemi, the organisation will provide live coverage of key election-day activities, including the arrival of election officials, deployment of election materials, accreditation and voting processes, and the announcement of results.
"These updates will be made available through Dataphyte's election reporting platforms, website, and social media channels to ensure citizens have timely access to credible election information," he stated.
Olufemi further noted that Dataphyte's engagement with the Ekiti election began long before election day, through the publication of pre-election analyses, data-driven reports, and visualisations designed to provide citizens with a deeper understanding of the state's electoral landscape.
Speaking on the significance of the exercise, Dataphyte's Program Manager, Abdulahi Adebayo, stated that the live election coverage is particularly important at a time when concerns around insecurity and declining public confidence in democratic processes continue to shape electoral participation. According to him, the reporting exercise seeks to encourage citizen engagement, strengthen transparency and accountability in the electoral process, bridge trust gaps between citizens and electoral institutions, and reinforce confidence that every vote counts.
Overall, Dataphyte's election observation and reporting aims to expand access to credible election information, promote data-driven public discourse, and contribute to the integrity and transparency of Nigeria's electoral process.
