Masterclass on Peace Communication and Resilience Building for Grassroots Media and Other Stakeholders

Dataphyte Foundation is organising a two-day Peace Communication and Community Resilience Masterclass, scheduled for Thursday, December 11, and Friday, December 12, 2025, in Abuja.

This masterclass is part of Dataphyte Foundation’s People-Centred Public Safety project, which aims to strengthen the capacity of grassroots media actors to support peacebuilding, local accountability, and community resilience through fact-driven and conflict-sensitive reporting. The initiative focuses on equipping community, campus, and state-level radio stations with the tools and knowledge required to produce solution-oriented stories that help reduce misinformation, improve public understanding, and foster safer, more cohesive communities.

The masterclass is designed to build a network of trained media professionals who can use data, storytelling, and ethical reporting practices to highlight early warning signs of conflict, support inclusive dialogue, and promote accountability at the local level. Participants will engage in hands-on exercises, practical demonstrations, and peer-learning sessions tailored to the needs of grassroots broadcasters across the South-South and North Central regions.

The target audiences are community- and campus-based radio broadcasters, state- and independent-radio broadcasters, and community content creators. 

The main goal of this masterclass is to strengthen the ability of community and grassroots-focused radio stations and media actors to produce fact-driven, solution-oriented, and conflict-sensitive stories that support peacebuilding, local accountability, and community resilience.

Specifically, the masterclass aims to:

1. Equip participants with practical skills for gathering, analysing, and using data to report community safety issues effectively and ethically.

2. Introduce community broadcasters and digital creators to peace communication principles that help reduce misinformation, divisive and harmful narratives.

3. Support community storytellers with tools for producing resilience-based content that highlights local solutions, community strengths and lived experiences.

Expected Outcomes

• A network of multimedia content creators who understand and apply peace communication principles in their reporting.

• Increased capacity of community media actors to gather data and produce accurate, data-grounded stories on conflict, civic space issues, community safety and resilience.

• Improved use of behaviour change and conflict-sensitive communication across community platforms.

• Strengthened collaboration between community media practitioners and organisations working on community safety, human rights and peacebuilding initiatives.

• Higher quality of community-led stories that support early warning, peacebuilding, disaster preparedness, and public accountability.
